Symptoms of WinSock Problems

  • No internet despite active connection

Windows XP SP2 Fix

Standard Method:

1. Start > Run > cmd
2. netsh winsock reset catalog
3. netsh int ip reset reset.log
4. Restart computer

Recovery Console Method:

1. Boot from Windows XP CD
2. Select Recovery Console
3. netsh winsock reset
4. Restart computer

Windows Vista Fix

Administrator Command Prompt:

1. Start > type "cmd"
2. Right-click Command Prompt > Run as administrator
3. netsh winsock reset catalog
4. netsh int ip reset reset.log
5. Restart computer

Quick Tips

  • Always restart after reset
  • May need network driver reinstallation
  • Run after malware removal
  • Safe operation, doesn’t affect personal files
  • Try after uninstalling VPN/network software
